About the role

About the Role: Our client is seeking a dedicated and technically proficient Drilling Engineer to provide essential operational support in George. This role focuses on ensuring the safe, efficient, and cost-effective execution of drilling operations, from well design through to completion. You will be instrumental in developing drilling programs, selecting appropriate equipment, and managing risks associated with drilling activities in challenging geological environments. This position offers a unique opportunity to contribute to innovative drilling solutions and operational excellence within the South African Oil & Gas sector, working closely with field teams and surface operations.
Key Responsibilities: Develop detailed drilling plans and programs, including casing, cementing, and mud engineering aspects. Select and procure appropriate drilling equipment, tools, and services, ensuring compliance with safety standards. Monitor drilling progress, identify potential hazards, and implement mitigation strategies to ensure safe operations. Analyze drilling data, troubleshoot operational issues, and optimize drilling performance. Conduct post-drilling analysis and generate reports to identify lessons learned and areas for improvement. Coordinate with rig site personnel, service providers, and management to ensure seamless operations.
Requirements: Bachelor's degree in Petroleum Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, or a closely related field. A minimum of 4 years of experience in drilling engineering, preferably with offshore or challenging onshore operations. Solid understanding of well control principles, drilling hydraulics, and directional drilling. Experience with drilling software and data analysis tools. Strong commitment to health, safety, and environmental (HSE) standards. Ability to work effectively under pressure and manage multiple priorities.
