Transload Operators are responsible for providing safe and efficient rail car loading and unloading services for the customers. Working in a safety and environmentally sensitive, customer service driven environment, incumbents must work well in teams to maximize efficiency and safety and deliver to the customer’s schedule.
Ensures the safe operation of the transloading equipment including applying rules, special instructions, and transloading procedures.
Make all connections for each product transfer.
Performing daily inspection and testing of equipment and safety devices.
Reports on all safety and equipment problems.
Complies with all applicable operating rules, switching procedures and regulations imposed by government, the customer, and/or Cando; practicing and promoting safe work habits.
Completing daily reports, daily logs, and other reports deemed necessary.
Provides support to the switching teams as required.
Activelyparticipating with the team and providing excellent customer service while promoting a superior company image.
Participates in training or company initiatives as required.
Skills, Knowledge, & Abilities
Demonstrated ability to work effectively as part of a team.
Locomotive operating experience is required.
Ability to recognize unsafe conditions and exercise stop-work authority when necessary.
Ability to read, understand, and prepare general documentation, including safety briefings and policy and procedure manuals.
Strong verbal and written communication skills.
Previous transload operator experience is preferred.
Physical ability to climb onto and off railcars and ladders; lift, maneuver, and connect hoses; secure railcar brakes; work safely at heights while using fall-protection equipment; and operate derails and switches.
Proficiency with technology and computer systems, including the ability and willingness to use Microsoft Excel and Outlook daily.
Ability to meet and maintain all regulatory and customer requirements applicable to industrial switching operations at the site, including safety-critical medical requirements, customer safety certifications, and CROR certification.
Ability to work safely in all weather conditions.
Education and Experience:
Experience in handling dangerous goods and working with a variety of products in an industrial environment is preferred.
The standard work schedule is Monday through Friday, from 7:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m.; weekend availability is required as needed.
