About the role
- Read and interpret detailed blueprints and work instructions
- Run manual lathe machine
- Machine a wide variety of castings, bar stock, and fabricated parts
- Determine machining methods, tooling requirements, feeds, and speeds
- Perform complete machine setups, including alignment of irregular-shaped parts
- Select tooling and operation sequences based on materials and production requirements
- Use precision measuring instruments to verify dimensions and quality
- Grind tool bits and make necessary tooling adjustments
- Maintain equipment by keeping machines clean and monitoring fluid levels
- Keep tooling organized and work area clean and safe
- Assist with training and mentoring new operators as needed
- Perform additional duties assigned by supervisor
- Minimum 5 years of manual engine lathe operating experience in a job shop environment
- High school diploma or GED required
- Ability to read blueprints and perform complex setups independently
- Experience using precision measuring instruments
- Must provide own hand tools required for the position
- Strong mechanical aptitude and attention to detail
- Ability to lift up to 50 lbs and work in a physically demanding environment involving bending, stooping, twisting, and standing for extended periods
- Ability to pass a preemployment screening
