About the role
Senior Director of Preconstruction – Rail & Civil Construction Our client has spent over 60 years earning its reputation as one of North America's most respected heavy civil construction organizations operating in over 30 states. We're looking for a Director of Preconstruction to lead pursuit strategy and cost planning for complex rail and civil projects, working directly with executive leadership, owners, and JV partners to win and set up the work that their field teams build.
What You'll Do:
Lead preconstruction strategy for rail and civil pursuits, including design-build, CMGC, CMAR, and PDB delivery Direct cost estimating, constructibility reviews, and value engineering across trackwork, structures, and civil scopes Own risk identification and pricing strategy through negotiation, partnering with legal and operations leadership Build and mentor a high-performing preconstruction team of estimators, schedulers, and engineers Serve as a senior client-facing leader during pursuits, building trust with owners and JV partners Develop win strategies, teaming structures, and proposal narratives for competitive and negotiated work Ensure clean handoff from preconstruction to operations, protecting budget, schedule, and quality commitments
What You Bring:
Bachelor's degree in Construction Management, Engineering, or related field (or equivalent experience)10+ years of construction leadership with a strong preconstruction/estimating focus Rail, transit, or heavy civil infrastructure background strongly preferred Demonstrated success leading preconstruction on alternative delivery projects (DB, CMGC, CMAR, PDB)Strong command of cost estimating, scheduling, and risk-based pricing Proven ability to win competitive pursuits and lead high-performing teams Why Join Join a privately held, employee-focused organization solving some of the most technically demanding rail and civil infrastructure challenges in America.
