Teaching Associates typically are responsible for providing classroom instruction and supporting faculty in undergraduate courses. Anticipated Appointment Dates Fall 2026: August 21, 2026 – December 23, 2026 Spring 2027: January 21, 2027 – May 29, 2027 Hours and Salary Hours/Units per week: Up to 20 hours per week; no more than 7.5 units per semester. Initial salary is commensurate with qualifications and experience with a salary range of $3,245 – $7,598. The anticipated monthly hiring range is generally at or near the minimum of the appropriate range. Job Duties Under the general supervision of the TA Supervisor, successful candidates will teach sections of the undergraduate general education COMM 1100: Oral Communication course sections, as instructors of record. TA duties include: Attend TA orientation at the beginning of the semester Instruct and manage classroom Create or implement course design and assignment sequence Prepare course materials and classroom activities Administer examinations Assess student performance, including giving course grades Maintain office hours Minimum Qualifications Degree‑seeking graduate student enrolled in a Cal State LA master’s program in Communication Studies, in good academic standing Enrollment in course(s) toward the degree for the semester of appointment Ability to relate well with others and to learn how to instruct and evaluate students Demonstrated commitment to working effectively with faculty, staff and students from diverse backgrounds M.A. graduate student with a Bachelor’s degree in Communication or a related field and completion of an approved Conditional Program for the M.A. in COMS Evidence of satisfactory academic achievement or progress toward degree completion during the appointment period Equal Opportunity and Excellence in Education and Employment California State University, Los Angeles is an Equal Opportunity/TITLE IX Employer.
