We do this by connecting consumers and producers; supporting equitable distribution of food resources; removing barriers to access; including stakeholders in decision making; providing food justice education and advocacy; and engaging with community partners. As a Farmers Market Champion Volunteer, you will assist in ensuring markets are operating smoothly and efficiently. The support given will foster a thriving local food system that is necessary to connect our small local producers and consumers. This is an in-person role, weekends & holidays, markets typically run 9a - 2p, May - October. farmers market location sites available in St. Lawrence County (Canton, Gouverneur, Potsdam, Massena). Responsibilities can include market setup and breakdown including booth and signage; operating and educating about the farmers market token system; providing customer and vendor support; and participating in outreach activities to raise awareness about the farmers markets. Qualifications include a passion for local food system and community building, effective communication skills, basic technology skills to operate the token system, ability to lift and move market equipment (totes, signs, tent, table) is a plus.
