About the role

DSP Scientist (Northway Biotech, Inc.; Waltham, MA): Perform hands‑on execution of all aspects of purification, filtration, and formulation activities to develop scalable and robust downstream processes for biologics in the pilot plant. Troubleshoot technical issues relating to these operations. Conduct purification and filtration experiments to support small‑scale studies, process scale‑up, technology transfer, scale‑up and process optimization. Collect data and contribute to technical reports. Identify technical issues and implement solutions. Develop long‑term strategic project plans for the functional team and client projects.
Minimum requirements: Master’s degree or foreign equivalent in Chemical Engineering, Biochemical Engineering or equivalent, plus 2 years of industrial or relevant experience. Alternatively, will accept either a Bachelor’s degree or foreign equivalent in Chemical Engineering, Biochemical Engineering or equivalent plus 4 years of industrial or relevant experience, or a Ph.D. or foreign equivalent in Chemical Engineering, Biochemical Engineering or equivalent.
Must have: Knowledge of recombinant protein or biomolecule purification development. Understanding of protein chemistry, protein analytics and bioprocess technology. Ability to operate and troubleshoot downstream unit operations (Columns, UF/DF, TFF). Ability and desire to work in a fast‑paced, start‑up environment. Strong collaboration, team‑working, documentation, and communication skills. Independently motivated and detail‑oriented with good problem‑solving ability. Must be able to work effectively in cross‑functional teams.
