About the role
Park Specialist The Park Specialist is responsible for assisting in the daily maintenance, visitor services, and conservation efforts within Arkansas state parks. This role ensures that park facilities, landscapes, and public areas are well-maintained, safe, and accessible for visitors. The Park Specialist also provides customer service, educates guests on park regulations, and supports recreation programs to enhance the overall visitor experience. Primary responsibilities include receiving and confirming room reservations via telephone, managing front desk operations, mailing room confirmations, deposit receipts, and refund forms to guests, greeting and registering guests, assigning rooms, and ensuring a smooth check-in process. The Park Specialist answers inquiries, provides information on hotel services, guest registration, travel directions, and local tourist attractions, maintains accurate guest account records, balances the cash register, compiles daily activity and transaction reports, sells gift items, maintains office supply inventories, conducts security checks, assigns tasks to custodial staff, processes merchandise orders, collaborates with vendors, monitors and coordinates inventory activities, verifies inventory records, ensures the assigned facility is clean and organized, performs monetary transactions, operates a cash register, serves as a lead worker by training and guiding staff, sets work plans and deadlines, provides instructions, reviews completed tasks, enforces park policies and regulations, reports safety hazards, ensures compliance with state and federal regulations, helps enforce emergency protocols, and supports special events and recreation programs. Knowledge and skills include basic bookkeeping and accounting principles, general office practices and procedures, comprehension and preparation of oral and written materials, establishing and maintaining organized filing systems, answering telephones, greeting visitors, providing accurate information and assistance, operating standard office equipment, knowledge of computer systems and commonly used software applications, database management, inventory control practices, financial recordkeeping, customer service principles, creatively arranging and displaying merchandise, coordinating, instructing, and reviewing the work of others, and strong organizational skills. Minimum qualifications include at least six months of experience in customer service, bookkeeping, retail operations, or a related field.
