About the role
Construction Materials Production Manager Manages production operations across assigned construction materials plants and is accountable for safe, reliable, and cost-effective output that meets customer demand and product specifications. Leads production supervisors and crews, sets production plans and schedules, and aligns plant capacity with sales forecasts and inventory needs. Partners with maintenance, quality control, and operations leaders to improve equipment reliability, throughput, yield, and unit costs, and drives a strong safety culture and continuous improvement throughout the production process.
Duties and Responsibilities:
- Manage production operations to meet output, product quality, and cost targets
- Develop production plans and schedules that align plant capacity with sales forecasts and inventory needs
- Lead, coach, and develop production supervisors and crews, and manage performance and staffing levels
- Monitor throughput, uptime, yield, and unit costs, and lead corrective actions to close performance gaps
- Optimize plant settings, product mix, and process flow to improve efficiency and meet specifications
- Partner with maintenance to plan preventive maintenance, shutdowns, and repairs that improve reliability
- Work with quality control to monitor test results and resolve product specification issues
- Manage production budgets and control labor, energy, wear parts, and material costs
- Drive a strong safety culture and ensure compliance with MSHA, OSHA, environmental, and company requirements
- Identify process improvements and capital needs, and support equipment and plant improvement projects
- Maintain accurate production, inventory, and regulatory records and reporting
- Perform other related duties and ad hoc tasks as assigned
- Education and/or Experience:
- Bachelor degree in operations, engineering, business, or a related field preferred; equivalent relevant experience considered
- Progressive construction materials production and leadership experience required
- Relevant safety, environmental, quality, or leadership certifications preferred
- Individual Development (Knowledge, Skills and Abilities):Deep knowledge of construction materials production processes, plant equipment, and product specifications
- Strong understanding of production planning, capacity, and process improvement methods
- Ability to lead production teams and drive results through supervisors
- Strong planning, scheduling, budgeting, and cost-management skills
- Working knowledge of MSHA, OSHA, and environmental requirements
- Ability to analyze production data and identify root causes of performance issues
- Strong communication and problem-solving skills
