Material Handler - Sheldon Nebraska Public Power District (NPPD) has an immediate opening for a Material Handler - Sheldon Station located at Sheldon Station in Hallam, Nebraska. Position summary includes operating equipment needed to unload and reclaim coal, convey and transport fly/bottom ash, and any maintenance necessary to keep the material handling system at Sheldon Station operational. This includes the operation of all coal systems, trains, and heavy machinery. Education, training and experience: Incumbent must be recommended based on the Power Plant Maintenance Selection System (MASS) results. Two-year technical college graduate in a heavy equipment or mechanical maintenance related area OR a high school diploma/GED and 2 years experience as described below. Prior related experience in railroad operations, heavy-equipment operation (grading, hauling, dirt-work, etc.), and/or industrial maintenance. Other work experience or demonstrated performance indicating the applicant has the skills and ability to perform the required duties of the position may be substituted for the specified years of experience. Class A CDL preferred. Essential duties and responsibilities include operating coal unloading, coal reclaim systems, ash disposal systems, operating heavy equipment and locomotives, unloading chemicals, acids, and freight, completing preventive and corrective maintenance work requests for coal and ash system areas as required, rebuilding, fabricating, and overhauling coal-handling equipment mechanically and structurally, performing general maintenance on heavy equipment, maintaining and policing railroad trackage and right of way, keeping coal system cleaned up for fire prevention and combustible dust avoidance, maintenance of fleet vehicles and general plant maintenance support, mowing, spraying weeds, and removing snow to maintain plant safety and access. Accountable for other duties as assigned. Salary information: Nebraska Public Power District offers a competitive starting salary with opportunities for growth. In addition to the base salary range listed below, NPPD employees may also be eligible for our Annual Incentive Program (AIP) that may supplement total compensation at a level above and beyond the stated salary range. Pay grade starting salary range: $41.91 - $52.39.
Travel required: up to 25% (with no or minimal overnight stays, less than 3 per month, typically within state of Nebraska). This is an estimate and will be discussed further with candidates that receive an interview.
