Location: New York, NY – Hybrid, 2–3 days per week onsite
Duration: Permanent / Full-Time
Position Overview:
A leading international law firm is seeking a Senior Virtual Desktop Engineer to join its Enterprise Platforms Group within the Information Technology department. The role will support the continued modernization of their virtual desktop environment, including cloud migration and Desktop-as-a-Service (DaaS) initiatives. Experience migrating on-premises Citrix or other VDI environments to AVD or similar cloud platforms is highly valued. The successful candidate will be a hands-on problem solver who can operate effectively in a complex enterprise environment, troubleshoot challenging technical issues, and collaborate closely with infrastructure, network, security, application, and service delivery teams.
Key Responsibilities:
Serve as a senior engineer responsible for the performance, reliability, security, and continuous improvement of the enterprise virtual desktop environment.
Design, implement, administer, and optimize Azure Virtual Desktop (AVD) environments, including host pools, session hosts, application groups, workspaces, images, scaling, networking, identity, and profiles.
Provide day-to-day administration and advanced troubleshooting for AVD, Citrix, Windows, user profiles, authentication, networking, and application delivery.
Troubleshoot complex virtual desktop, profile, application, authentication, connectivity, and performance issues and manage escalations through resolution.
Support and evaluate end-user computing technologies including FSLogix, Nerdio Manager for Enterprise, and application/profile management solutions.
Develop and maintain PowerShell automation and scripting to improve operational efficiency, consistency, monitoring, and reporting.
Contribute to architecture, engineering, platform upgrades, migrations, disaster recovery testing, and other infrastructure initiatives.
Collaborate with Infrastructure, Network, Security, Applications, Service Delivery, and other IT teams to deliver integrated enterprise solutions.
Create and maintain technical documentation, architectural diagrams, operational procedures, and engineering standards.
Participate in scheduled maintenance and other after-hours activities when required.
Provide technical guidance and mentorship to other engineers and support teams.
Communicate technical issues, project status, risks, and dependencies clearly to management and project stakeholders.
Required Qualifications:
7+ years of experience designing, managing, and supporting large-scale enterprise virtual desktop environments.
Strong hands-on experience with Azure Virtual Desktop (AVD), including host pools, session hosts, application groups, workspaces, image management, scaling, identity, networking, and profile integration.
Strong experience with FSLogix and enterprise user-profile/personalization technologies.
Working knowledge of Microsoft Azure and Entra ID, particularly as they relate to AVD, hybrid identity, hybrid join, and Entra Kerberos.
Strong experience with Windows desktop/server environments, Active Directory, Group Policy, Intune, and PowerShell.
Demonstrated ability to troubleshoot and resolve complex enterprise VDI incidents, service requests, performance issues, and escalations.
Experience balancing day-to-day operational support with engineering, migration, and infrastructure projects.
Strong analytical, problem-solving, documentation, and communication skills.
Ability to work independently, manage multiple priorities, and quickly become productive in a complex enterprise environment.
Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, Engineering, or a related field, or equivalent professional experience.
Preferred Qualifications:
Experience migrating on-premises VDI environments to AVD or other cloud-hosted DaaS platforms.
Strong experience with Citrix Virtual Apps and Desktops, including Delivery Controllers, StoreFront, Citrix ADC/Gateway, Machine Creation Services, Provisioning Services, and Citrix User Profile Management.
Experience with Nerdio Manager for Enterprise or similar AVD management and automation platforms.
Experience with application-control technologies such as Windows Defender Application Control (WDAC) or Ivanti Application Control.
Working knowledge of Microsoft Hyper-V, VMware, or other enterprise virtualization platforms.
Experience with enterprise automation, monitoring, and reporting.
Microsoft Azure certifications, such as AZ-104 or AZ-140, are highly regarded.
Citrix certifications, such as CCP-V or CCE-V, are highly regarded.
