Medication Access Specialist
Overview: The Medication Access Specialist supports ambulatory care pharmacy programs by providing assistance with prior authorization (PA) and financial assistance (FA) processes, medication refills, and related patient support activities. The role focuses on completing prior authorizations, communicating with insurers and clinic staff, and working on refill protocols to prevent therapy interruptions. The Specialist serves as a key liaison between patients, providers, payers, and pharmacy teams to ensure smooth medication access.
Responsibilities: Complete prior authorizations. Communicate with insurers and clinic staff. Work on refill protocols to prevent therapy interruptions. Collaborate with pharmacists, providers, and insurance companies to resolve access barriers and support patient adherence.
Qualifications: High school graduate or equivalent required; completion of Pharmacy Technician Program preferred. 3‑5 years of experience as a licensed Pharmacy Technician in a clinical, ambulatory care, or specialty pharmacy setting. Demonstrated experience with prior authorizations, insurance verification, and medication access workflows. Proficient in using electronic health records (EHRs), pharmacy benefit tools, and prior authorization portals (e.g., Cover MyMeds, Surescripts). Strong understanding of specialty and high‑cost medications, including coordination with patient assistance programs (PAPs) and manufacturer hubs. Strong collaboration skills with pharmacists, providers, and insurance companies. Certifications / Licensure Pharmacy Technician – California Board of Pharmacy – Required; CPhT Pharmacy Technician – PTCB Pharmacy Technician Certification Board – Required. Employment Type Temporary, expected to last at least until December 31,2026. Work Shift 08:00–17:00 (U.S.). Pay Range$38.04–$51.35 per hour, adjusted to the local market if hired outside of the Bay Area.
