Assistant Resident Engineer Job at WSP in the U.S. in Sacramento

Position Full Time Assistant Resident Engineer for WSP’s Antioch, California office. The role supports the PMCM team and may work on projects spanning multiple disciplines such as roadway/highway and transit/rail construction. Location Antioch, California (candidate may also be based in the SanFrancisco Bay Area, greater Sacramento area, or Central Valley). Responsibilities Maintain knowledge of client construction specifications and contract management. Supervise, develop, and train field staff and construction support staff assigned to a project. Supervise and conduct inspections and reviews of work in accordance with applicable codes, standards, and project drawings. Perform field engineering, contract administration, inspection, testing, surveying, and quality control on one large or several small construction projects. Verify and review project documentation for acceptance, including pay applications, change orders, submittals, shop drawings, cost‑reduction proposals, traffic‑control modifications, and related items. Act as the primary point of contact between the client, project team, and contractors. Manage the construction management team, including sub‑consultants. Review and make recommendations for contractors’ project schedules and non‑conforming work. Attend and may lead construction meetings with client and contractors. Meet with prospective clients to learn about future CM pursuit opportunities. Exercise responsible and ethical decision‑making regarding company funds, resources, and conduct and adhere to WSP’s Code of Conduct and related policies and procedures. Perform additional responsibilities as required by business needs. Required Qualifications Bachelor’s degree in an engineering‑related field or equivalent experience. Minimum of 10 years of directly relevant experience, including Resident Engineer or related roles (or equivalent working knowledge). Working knowledge of applicable codes, standards, and materials (e.g., Caltrans). Demonstrated ability to read and interpret contract documents. Effective oral and written communication skills. Proven track record of upholding workplace safety and compliance with WSP’s health, safety, drug/alcohol, and harassment policies. Valid driver’s license. The selected candidate must be authorized to work in the United States. Preferred Qualifications Experience in local municipalities and/or Caltrans. Background in construction management, architecture, or engineering fields. Professional Engineer (PE) / Licensed Civil Engineer in the State of California. Familiarity with e‑Builder, MS Office, MS Project, and other PC software used on design and construction projects. Bridge and highway construction inspection experience.
