About the role

Overview: This is a full performance level nonsupervisory position. A Clinical Laboratory Scientist or technologist at this level develops, performs, evaluates, interprets, correlates, and validates the accuracy of laboratory procedures and results. Testing procedures are performed on a variety of biological specimens and/or environmental samples using manual or automated techniques and require a broad exercise of independent judgment and responsibility with minimal technical supervision. The work performed is in Cytogenetics and FISH testing. This position includes requirements to monitor quality control systems and measures; collaborate in the diagnosis and treatment of patients; and provide education for laboratory and other healthcare professionals.
Responsibilities: Perform testing procedures on a variety of biological specimens and/or environmental samples using manual or automated techniques with broad independent judgment and responsibility. Monitor quality control systems and measures to ensure accuracy and reliability of results. Collaborate in the diagnosis and treatment of patients. Provide education for laboratory staff and other healthcare professionals.
Qualifications: Bachelor’s degree in biology, chemistry, or equivalent; prior laboratory experience required. Experience as a cytogenetics technologist in a CLIA environment is a plus. Knowledge of professional cytogenetic and FISH principles, practices, concepts, and theories to support independent work in a clinical diagnostics setting. Comprehensive knowledge of laboratory quality control and assurance procedures, and principles of performance improvement. Knowledge of laboratory equipment and ability to maintain, troubleshoot, and repair instrumentation. Ability to use independent technical judgment to analyze and interpret laboratory results. Ability to interpret and apply complex written instructions. Ability to communicate effectively (written and verbal) with the healthcare team, external relations, customer service, and patient education.
