Role Description:
The General Manager is a full-time, on-site leadership role based in Stratford, CT. This position oversees day-to-day operations, including project planning, resource allocation, and coordination of field and office teams to ensure safe, compliant, and efficient execution of environmental projects. The General Manager develops and implements operational procedures, manages budgets, monitors performance metrics, and drives continuous improvement across services and workflows. This role also builds and maintains customer relationships, supports business development efforts, and ensures that projects meet quality, regulatory, and contractual requirements. The General Manager is responsible for coaching and developing staff, fostering a culture of safety and accountability, and collaborating with senior leadership on strategic initiatives.
Qualifications:
Demonstrated experience in operations or general management, ideally within environmental services, construction, waste management, or a related industrial sector. Strong leadership skills with the ability to supervise multidisciplinary teams, manage performance, and promote a culture of safety, compliance, and collaboration. Proficiency in project and contract management, including budgeting, scheduling, resource planning, and oversight of on-time, in-budget project delivery. Knowledge of relevant environmental regulations and safety standards (e.g., OSHA) and experience working with licensed and certified technical staff. Effective communication and interpersonal skills for engaging clients, vendors, regulatory agencies, and internal stakeholders. Analytical and problem-solving abilities to identify operational issues, implement process improvements, and support strategic decision-making. Comfort with using business software tools (e.g., project management systems, spreadsheets, CRM platforms) to track performance and report results. Bachelor’s degree in Business, Environmental Science, Engineering, or a related field preferred; equivalent experience in a senior operations role will be considered. Ability to work on-site in Stratford, CT, with flexibility to visit job sites and customer locations as needed.5+ years in the Environmental Manager role 40-hr HAZWOPER certification Valid driver's license and reliable transportation Expert working knowledge of the environmental industry best practices and associated government regulatory procedures Strong interpersonal and networking skills to build relationships with clients and direct reports
