About the role
Our client is seeking an experienced Head of Benefits to lead the strategy, administration, and continuous improvement of employee benefits programs across the U.S. and Canada. This role will oversee a high-performing benefits team while partnering with HR and business leaders to deliver competitive, compliant, and employee-focused programs. The ideal candidate brings a strong background in benefits administration, vendor management, compliance, and team leadership within a large, complex organization.
Responsibilities
Strategic Benefits:
Leadership Lead the design, administration, and enhancement of health, welfare, retirement, and leave programs. Manage and develop the benefits team, ensuring exceptional employee support and service. Partner with cross-functional stakeholders to align benefits programs with organizational objectives. Provide guidance and resolution for complex benefits-related matters. Vendor Relations & Fiscal Management Oversee relationships with benefit providers, brokers, consultants, and third-party vendors. Support annual renewals, budgeting, forecasting, and cost-management initiatives. Monitor vendor performance and service levels to ensure program effectiveness and value.
Benefits:
Operations & Employee Engagement Lead major benefits initiatives, implementations, and process improvements. Manage annual Open Enrollment planning, communications, and execution. Develop employee education and communication strategies to drive program awareness and engagement. Enhance operational efficiency through process and technology improvements. Compliance & Oversight Ensure compliance with applicable benefits regulations and reporting requirements. Oversee plan documentation, audits, and governance processes. Support the administration of retirement and savings programs. Workforce Analytics & Reporting Utilize data and reporting to evaluate program performance and inform recommendations. Develop metrics and analyses that support strategic decision-making and continuous improvement.
Qualifications:
7+ years of progressive experience managing employee benefits programs. Experience managing to Canadian and U.S. benefits programs. Prior leadership experience overseeing benefits or HR professionals. Strong knowledge of health and welfare, retirement, leave, and compliance programs. Experience leading Open Enrollment, vendor management, and benefits initiatives. Experience supporting large and/or multi-location organizations preferred. Strong analytical, communication, and stakeholder management skills.
