About the role

CareerXL | Remote | Part-time, 20 hours/week | Paid (Up to $30/hr) About CareerXLCareerXL is a career coaching and accelerator program that helps students break into investment banking, management consulting, and private equity. We pair students with coaches who have worked at the firms our students are targeting, and we run the process end to end — from first conversation through offer. We are small, we move quickly, and the people who do well here are the ones who take something ambiguous and turn it into a system.
The Role: The Business Operations Intern sits at the center of how CareerXL runs smoothly and efficiently. You will spend part of your time keeping our coaching operation sharp; making sure coaches are supported, feedback loops are closing, and students have a great experience from the day they sign up. The rest of your time goes towards process improvements; these improvements will span across all areas of the business including marketing, human resources, and growth. This is not a role where you will be handed a list of tasks. You will be given real problems, real ownership, and direct access to the people making decisions. What You'll Work OnExecution and Accountability Own the weekly operating cadence: track commitments across the team, follow up on anything slipping, and escalate when a deadline is missed Enforce deadlines across coaching, admissions, and internal projects so nothing stalls between handoffs (ensure feedback is given quickly) Contribute to creation of a weekly scorecard and identify key metrics to share during leadership meetings Monitor student progress against stage gates and recruiting deadlines, and flag at-risk students to their lead mentor and the program manager Identifying and Removing Obstacles Map how a student moves from signup to offer, and how a coach moves from hire to certified, then find the friction points and fix them Run point on day-to-day operational issues from coaches, students, and the team, and get them resolved instead of passed along Spot recurring problems, diagnose the root cause, and build a process to stops them from reoccurring Audit our tools and trackers for gaps, stale data, and manual work that should be automated Talent Oversight Coordinate coach hiring and onboarding to ensure high quality standards across coaches Track coach standards like response times, session logging, and tracker updates, and follow up when they slip Monitor coach capacity against student demand so we can hire ahead of peak recruiting seasons Support coach recruiting by screening candidates and coordinating trial sessions Close the feedback loop between students, coaches, and leadership so issues surface early Building Systems and Resources Create internal and client-facing materials (decks, one-pagers, reports) when a problem calls for one Build and standardize templates for coaching sessions, weekly updates, and student progress reviews Develop student and coach resources such as mock interview drills, assessment rubrics, and onboarding guides Build AI tools and automations that save the team time on tracking, reporting, and student prep Who We're Looking ForCurrent students and recent graduates are both welcome to apply, along with anyone who has recently exited a role in consulting, finance, or sales Prior internship experience in sales, marketing, consulting, or finance (investment banking, private equity, or similar) is preferred Strong written communication Comfortable owning a project with limited direction and reporting back on itOrganized enough to run several work streams at once without dropping any of them Genuinely interested in the recruiting and career development space; if you have been through a competitive recruiting process yourself, that experience is an asset Experience using AI for personal projects or in a workplace capacity to unlock efficiencies Self driven and accountable FlexibilityWe know our strongest candidates have other commitments, and we have built this role around that. If you need the summer off to complete an internship, we will hold the role. If you are in your final year of university and need to scale back during recruiting or exams, we will work around it. If you have a full-time job lined up after graduation, this role is designed to fit alongside the runway before you start. The expected time commitment for this role is 20 hours/ week. Tell us what your schedule looks like and we will figure it out together. Details
Compensation: This is a paid position. Successful candidates will be invited to a one-week trial at $20/hour. Candidates who complete the trial week will move into a one-month trial at $25/hour. After the full five-week probationary period, compensation increases to $30/hour.
Location: Fully remote
Hours: 20 hours per week, flexible scheduling
Start date: As soon as possible, rolling

Before you apply

Applying takes about a minute. These four things decide how fast it moves after that.

Your profile is current

It's what we read first. Occupations, seniority and locations matter more than a long history.

Two examples you can talk through

Not a portfolio — just two pieces of work where you can explain the decisions and what you'd change.

A number in mind

What you're on now and what would make you move. We negotiate better when we know both.

Your notice period

Employers plan around it, and it's the question that stalls offers most often.

Once you apply, someone reads it and calls you before anything reaches the employer — usually within two working days.
