Overview
In this role you lead hands-on software delivery within an Agile, cross-functional team on a live Central Government project. You shape technical direction, translate client needs into robust solutions, and drive high-quality, cloud-based software. You’ll blend leadership with hands-on coding in Java, Java Script, React and Type Script, and guide architecture, CI/CD, and cloud deployments. This is a mission-critical, government-facing opportunity with a strong emphasis on security, quality, and professional growth.

Responsibilities Lead and mentor a team of software engineers Design, develop and test bespoke software solutions Provide technical direction and client communication Produce solution architectures and technical designs Build full-stack applications using Java, Java Script, React and Type Script Design and deploy cloud-based solutions (AWS)Create CI pipelines (Git Lab)Cover full SDLC from requirements to delivery and maintenance Deploy software to public and private clouds Promote high standards of software quality, security and engineering practice
Key requirements Strong commercial Java development experience Experience designing/building AWS-based solutions Full-stack development with Java Script, React and Type Script Previous experience leading engineers or providing technical direction Understanding of software architecture and technical design Experience across the full SDLCStrong communication and stakeholder-engagement skills Ability to translate customer challenges into practical technical solutions Consultancy experience helpful but not essential Security clearance eligibility (high-level UK) and British citizenship; five-year UK residency Strong communication Stakeholder engagement Client-facing collaboration JavaAWSJava Script
