About the role
Exhibit Fabricator An Exhibit Fabricator at Science Museum Oklahoma is a multifaceted position responsible for implementing designs and fabricating various exhibits. The primary responsibilities for an Exhibit Fabricator will be to work in the public area of the museum constructing and fabricating exhibits. Responsible for researching and designing museum exhibits based on provided concepts Establish base knowledge behind the science that is represented in new exhibits Adheres to safety protocols set forth by the museum and OSHA regulations Responsible for cleanliness and organization of shop work area Promotes positive interaction with guests while working in public view Research and acquire materials needed to construct new exhibits Maintaining, restocking and logging shop supplies as needed in the department Other duties as assigned.
Requirements:
CREDENTIALS/EXPERIENCEOne (1) or more years of experience working with mechanical skills in a shop environment. High school diploma or equivalent Preference may be given for a Technical Degree and Vocational Training or a combination of relevant education or experience. Preference may be given to those with forklift experience, or OSHA certifications. This position requires the employee to drive for business purposes in either their own vehicle or a vehicle provided by the Museum. Employees that drive for business purposes must be able to pass a Motor Vehicle Records check and provide proof of insurance and a valid license to drive on an annual basis.
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS & ABILITIES:
Ability to work in mechanical shop environment, to include loud noises, smells, and exposure to a variety of different materials Must understand the importance of shop etiquette Must have experience and knowledge of a variety of shop tools Experience in electronics, computers, carpentry and mechanical skills Metal and wood working experience Ability to learn CNC router experience Ability to learn 2D CAD design Must be able to work occasional overtime to ensure projects are completed on time. Must be able to meet the physical requirements of the position with or without accommodation.
WORKING CONDITIONS:
This position works in an active and busy museum and warehouse setting. Works in mechanical shop environment, to include loud noises, smells, and exposure to a variety of different materials. Must be able to reach, crawl around, and climb through children's exhibits Work involves frequent standing and walking for long periods of time. Work may include pushing and/or pulling, lifting, and carrying objects weighing up to 50 pounds without assistance and 100 pounds with assistance. This position may require the employee to drive for business purposes in either their own vehicle or a vehicle provided by the Museum. Employees that drive for business purposes must be able to pass a Motor Vehicle Records check and provide proof of insurance and a valid license to drive on an annual basis. This position has been designated as a Safety Sensitive position because this position operates a vehicle for business purposes. Due to HB 3127, Safety Sensitive positions will be subject to a zero-tolerance drug and alcohol policy, no matter their status as a Medical Marijuana License holder, as outlined in our Employee Handbook and in accordance with state law.
