POSITION SUMMARY: Do you like working with your hands, figuring out how machines tick, and seeing a finished product come off the line exactly right? ViaTech is looking for a Bindery Operator who wants to build a real skilled trade. You will set up, run, and fine-tune precision industrial equipment, solve mechanical problems on the fly, and take pride in work that meets tight specifications. This is a hands-on role with paid training, cross-training on multiple machines, and a clear path to grow your skills, your pay, and your career. Position Responsibilities: Set up, operate, and adjust precision production equipment, including programmable cutting, folding, and finishing machines, to job specifications and production schedules. Review job tickets, work orders, quantities, material specifications, and dimensions before starting each job. Make precise measurements and machine adjustments to hold tight tolerances and keep waste to a minimum. Complete changeovers quickly and safely so the next job starts on time. Perform start-up and in-process quality checks for size, squareness, count, sequence, and overall product condition. Perform operator-level preventive maintenance, including cleaning, lubrication, blade changes, and routine inspections. Troubleshoot feeding, alignment, and mechanical issues, and work alongside maintenance technicians on repairs to build your technical skills. Identify damaged or nonconforming product, set it aside, and notify the supervisor or quality lead. Keep accurate production records and meet throughput and quality targets. Pack, label, and stage finished product for shipment or the next production step. Cross-train on additional equipment and processes across the production floor. Follow all safety procedures, including lockout/tagout, machine guarding, and PPE requirements. Keep a clean, organized, and safe work area, including proper storage of tools and materials. Perform other duties as assigned.
Experience: High school diploma or GED preferred.1+ year of experience operating production, manufacturing, or industrial machinery preferred. A trade or vocational background and a strong desire to learn will also be considered. Experience with machine setup, changeovers, adjustments, and quality checks in a manufacturing or production environment. Ability to read measurements and use basic measuring tools, such as tape measures, rulers, and calipers. Mechanical aptitude and the ability to troubleshoot routine equipment issues. Willingness to work overtime as production needs require.
Preferred: Experience in commercial print bindery or finishing, including programmable paper cutters, folders, stitchers, or binders. Knowledge of print finishing quality standards and common bindery defects. Vocational or trade school coursework in Industrial Maintenance, Machine Tool Technology, or Manufacturing Technology. Forklift certification. Experience working in a multi-shift manufacturing operation.
Other Requirements: Valid Driver's License Ability to pass criminal background checks and drug screening
Other Physical Requirements: Must be able to communicate effectively with employees and customers; work on an active production floor, including extended periods of standing and walking; manual dexterity required for reaching, operating and adjusting equipment, and lifting objects up to 50 pounds.
