Job Summary: The purpose of the Tufting Supervisor is to facilitate and manage the efficient operations of a shift in the Tufting Department ensuring adherence to safety, quality, cost, and production standards.
Essential Duties & Responsibilities: Responsibilities include producing quality carpet, reasonable cost, highest efficiencies, and safest atmosphere which is accomplished by working with a staff of properly trained employees through motivation and counsel and maintaining the department's objectives as described in the department and plant business plans. Supervises 25 to 30 hourly employees. This position requires a seasoned knowledge of the Tufting area and equipment. Requires contact with plant maintenance and technical staff. Schedules work assignments of operating personnel for optimum utilization of manpower, material, and equipment. Assigns operating work within sections and acts as liaison between represented personnel and management. Sees that materials and supplies are delivered to work areas as needed. Requests needed equipment repairs. Performs or delegates "on the job training" of personnel to assure adherence to established operating procedures and company policy. Appraises staff performance: recommends promotion, termination, and disciplinary action. Encourages good housekeeping practices. Provides needed supplies, storage areas, and receptacles to maintain cleanliness in the assigned area. Recommends improvements in techniques, procedures, and equipment, and implements them as approved. Periodically reviews personnel requirements for assigned sections. Reviews costs of operation of the section with the objective of meeting production commitments at minimum cost. Actively promotes job safety. Effectively communicate the status of operation to other Shift Supervisors and Management. Note any problems which occur during his/her shift. Supervises quality testing as required. Coordinate workflow and establish production schedules that meet production goals. Performance Expectations (if applicable):Standing is required approximately 7 hours per shift. Stooping is required approximately 20 times per shift for approximately 3 minutes each time. Bending approximately 20 times per shift to check carpet is required. Frequently required to stand, walk, bend, pull, reach, handle, crouch, crawl, stoop, speak, hear, and write. Occasionally required to climb, balance, lift and kneel. Must have close vision, depth, and color perception. Occasionally required to lift up to 50 lbs. Experience/Education
Requirements: High school diploma or equivalent. Three or more years of experience in a Tufting environment is required. Efficient use of Microsoft Office software, e-mail software, and CAMS.
Other Requirements: Overtime is required on occasion. Strong leadership skills, independent thinking, strong organizational and planning abilities, and excellent analytical and problem-solving skills are essential. Perform any other duties assigned by Department Manager.
