Housed within the School of Arts and Sciences, the Department includes programs leading to initial teaching certification and the graduate Master of Education, Teacher Leader program. The Department Chair is expected to be committed to teaching and mentoring students, will work with the faculty and dean to expand the Department’s offerings, grow enrollment, lead accreditation processes, and develop a culture of data-based decision making within the department to enhance quality and continuous improvement. Collaboration across offices to increase enrollment will be a priority. Faculty rank is commensurate with experience; tenure is not offered at the institution. This is a nine‑month faculty position with some summer responsibilities for new student advising, registration, and accreditation. Responsibilities include, but are not limited to: Creates an atmosphere of collegiality and support that enables all members of the department to meet institutional expectations; Communicates openly and frequently, keeping all members of the department informed about issues relevant to the department; Communicates School policies and administrative decisions to the department faculty and students; Supports University enrollment efforts including participation in internal activities such as Eagle Prep and Preview Days as well as external recruitment activities; Schedules and presides over department meetings; Collects and reviews syllabi for courses taught in the department each semester to ensure compliance; Coordinates and oversees Program Coordinators within the department in collaboration with the Dean; Evaluates department faculty annually; Coordinates all requests for resources, prepares the department budget, and supervises the expenditure of funds; Prepares the department’s schedule of classes and assigns teaching responsibilities to faculty members; Communicates the needs of the department to the dean; Responds promptly to the needs of faculty, staff, and students, including management of grade appeals and student complaints; Promotes professional growth among all members of the department; Teaches both in-seat and online classes; ensures accreditation standards are met; collaborates on enrollment initiatives; develops curriculum; advises students; serves on committees; engages in scholarship; Hires and evaluates faculty, manages department budgets, prepares schedules, coordinates departmental data collection, and oversees internal and external reporting.
Required qualifications: Ph.D. or Ed.D. in Education from a regionally accredited institution; Thorough knowledge of AAQEP national standards and accreditation processes; Experience in higher education and qualification for the faculty rank of associate professor or higher; Direct experience as an educator within PreK-12 settings; Entrepreneurial mindset with experience growing programs; Passion for promoting educators of excellence; Demonstrated use of data-based decision-making models and experience in assessment of student learning outcomes; Administrative experience in higher education preferred; Flexibility and ability to communicate with varied constituencies and across disciplines.
