About the role

What You Will Do: Perform evaluation and treatment of adult and pediatric patients with disorders of the visual system, emphasizing binocular vision and eye movement disorders. Conduct strabismus evaluations, including motor testing, Fresnel and spectacle prism evaluation, convergence exercises, and orthoptic treatment. Perform infant and pediatric vision assessments, retinoscopy, and refraction. Provide patient screening examinations, testing, and assessment. Administer orthoptic treatment and patient education. Education & Formal Training Requirements Required: Bachelor's Degree in Ophthalmologic Care.
Preferred: Bachelor's Degree in Orthoptics.
Preferred: No prior work experience.
Licenses & Certifications: Required: Certified Orthoptist – American Orthoptic Council.
Knowledge, Skills & Abilities: Knowledge of binocular vision and eye movement disorders. Ability to perform infant and pediatric vision assessments. Ability to perform manifest and cycloplegic refractions in children. Knowledge of various testing modalities: visual acuity, lensometry, retinoscopy, refraction, color vision, pupil and slit‐lamp biomicroscopy, tonometry, and visual fields. Supervision No supervisory or lead responsibilities are assigned to this position.
Physical Demands: Climbing, pushing, standing, hearing, walking, reaching, grasping, kneeling, stooping, and repetitive motion. Medium work: exerting up to 50 lbs. of force occasionally or up to 25 lbs. of force frequently. Must have good balance and coordination. Close visual acuity, including color, depth perception, and field of vision. Frequent invasive and non‐invasive patient contact. Exposure to patient body fluids and hazardous or poisonous materials. Ability to react quickly to emergency situations.
