Controls Engineer
Position Overview:
The Controls Engineer will support industrial manufacturing operations by maintaining, troubleshooting, and improving automation and electrical control systems. This position will work closely with maintenance and engineering teams to keep production equipment running safely and efficiently, while also supporting system upgrades, equipment installations, and technical training.
Key Responsibilities:
Maintain and troubleshoot industrial automation and control systems, including PLCs, HMIs, VFDs, servo systems, robotics, computers, and industrial networks.
Diagnose electrical and controls-related issues and provide technical support to the maintenance team.
Modify and update PLC and other control programs to improve equipment performance, resolve issues, and support production needs.
Assist with the installation and commissioning of new equipment, including network configuration, IP addressing, program installation, and system connectivity.
Maintain current program backups, documentation, and records of controls-related changes.
Follow established controls change-management and documentation procedures.
Train maintenance personnel on basic electrical troubleshooting, controls-related issues, and component replacement.
Support engineering and maintenance leadership with technical projects and day-to-day operational needs.
Respond to equipment breakdowns and production floor calls as needed.
Provide after-hours technical support through remote troubleshooting and on-site assistance when required.
Provide technical coverage for engineering leadership when needed.
Be available to work varying shifts, weekends, and holidays based on operational requirements.
Required Qualifications:
High school diploma or equivalent.
At least 2 years of hands-on experience working with industrial automation and controls systems.
Strong hands-on experience with Allen-Bradley PLC platforms, including SLC and Logix.
Experience with PanelView HMIs, PowerFlex drives, and Kinetix servo systems.
Ability to troubleshoot electrical and control systems and install or wire electrical components.
Ability to read and modify electrical schematics.
Working knowledge of Ethernet and industrial networking.
Experience setting up and troubleshooting PCs and related hardware.
Strong proficiency with Microsoft Office, particularly Excel and other spreadsheet applications.
Strong communication and leadership skills.
Working knowledge of mechanical systems and industrial equipment.
Ability and willingness to provide on-call support and work flexible shifts, including weekends and holidays.
Preferred Qualifications:
Experience in food manufacturing or another high-volume industrial manufacturing environment.
Experience supporting equipment installation, startup, commissioning, and production troubleshooting.
Experience training maintenance or technical personnel on electrical and controls systems.
