Online Adjunct - Environmental Science Instructor Job Title Online Adjunct - Environmental Science Instructor Pay Rate Job Category Department Department SCHOOL OF ARTS & SCIENCES Position Summary Information Job Description Summary Southwestern Michigan College is seeking qualified adjunct instructors to teach online Environmental Science courses beginning in the Spring 2027 semester. This position requires demonstrated experience in online teaching and proficiency with virtual laboratory instruction. Instructors are expected to create engaging online learning environments, develop or adapt lab activities suitable for remote delivery and maintain regular accessibility to students.
Required Qualifications: Master’s degree or 18 graduate credits in Environmental Science or a closely related field including environmental science coursework or related professional experience Demonstrated experience teaching online courses, including familiarity with best practices in remote instruction Strong organization and communication skills Proficiency with learning management systems (Moodle preferred), email, and general instructional technologies Applicants are not required to live within the service area; however, they must maintain permanent residence in either Michigan or Indiana.
Preferred Qualifications: Master’s degree or higher in Environmental Science or a related discipline, with previous teaching experience Community college or adult learner teaching experience Quality Matters (QM) training or certification, or equivalent experience with online course quality standards Experience designing or delivering virtual or simulation-based laboratory activities
Other Information: All applicants must demonstrate the ability to promote active and collaborative learning through a variety of teaching methods, as well as relate to students. Exerting up to 10 pounds of force occasionally and/or negligible amount of force frequently or constantly to lift, carry, push, pull or otherwise move objects, including the human body. Sedentary work involves sitting most of the time. Jobs are sedentary if walking and standing are required only occasionally and all other sedentary criteria are met. 3. The visual acuity requirements including color, depth perception, and field vision The employee is required to have close visual acuity to perform an activity such as: preparing and analyzing data and figures; transcribing; viewing a computer terminal; extensive reading. 4.
