About the role
- The Corner Hoist Operator is responsible for safely and efficiently removing thermally processed product from the cooling canal using hoist equipment. This role ensures product integrity, adherence to food safety standards, and smooth workflow between processing and unloading operations.
- Operate the corner hoist to lift and transfer retort kettles from the cooling canal to retort carts
- Position empty retort carts at the end of the canal platform prior to product removal
- Accurately maneuver hoist controls (up, down, forward, reverse) to safely lift, transport, and lower kettles
- Ensure proper alignment of kettles over carts while maintaining safe working distance
- Verify autoclave tape has changed to the correct indicator (white with black stripes) before releasing product
- Immediately stop operations and notify management if autoclave tape is missing or has not changed
- Remove hoist hook and safely disengage equipment after kettle placement
- Transport filled carts to the designated unloading area
- Stage empty carts for continued production use
- Assist Whallon loader and unloader operators as needed, including: Positioning carts Guiding uncooked product carts to staging areas Transfer empty retort kettles between pallets and carts using general hoist procedures
- Maintain clean and organized work area
- Follow all safety, quality, and operational guidelines
- Frequency of Tasks: This process is performed every time a kettle is removed from the cooling canal post-cook
