About the role
Prevention Professional Intern Join our dynamic team as a Prevention Professional Intern in our Paid Prevention Internship Opportunity (PPIO). This 12-month, grant-funded position offers a unique entry-level pathway for individuals passionate about making a positive impact in their community by addressing alcohol and substance misuse. The internship provides a comprehensive learning experience, equipping participants with the skills and knowledge needed to pursue a Certified Prevention Professional (CPP) or Certified Prevention Specialist (CPS) credential. A maximum of 16 hours a week.
Essential Functions:
Community Engagement: Actively engage with the community by attending meetings, collaborating with coalitions and task forces, and fostering strong relationships with stakeholders such as service providers, schools, law enforcement, and local businesses. Prevention Education and Tools: Collaborate with community stakeholders to provide effective prevention education and tools, including workshops and initiatives. Workshop and Initiative Development: Contribute to the development and implementation of new workshops and initiatives, staying informed about emerging issues related to substance misuse.
Qualifications:
- Passion for community service and addressing substance misuse issues.
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
- Ability to work collaboratively with diverse stakeholders.
- Eagerness to learn and apply evidence-based practices.
- Pursuing or holding a degree in topics related to substance use, mental health, or surrounding areas is preferred.
- Comfortability commuting up to 40 miles from the greater Utica area.
- Capable of working in an academic atmosphere.
- Established knowledge of local community and accessible resources preferred but not required.
- Current and valid NYS driver's license.
