Job Title: Master Control Operator
Location: Centennial, Colorado, USAIntroduction: The Master Control Operator plays a critical role in the broadcast and media operations of our organization. This position is responsible for ensuring the seamless transmission of television and radio programming, maintaining broadcast quality, and managing the flow of content across multiple channels. The Master Control Operator’s work directly impacts the organization's ability to deliver consistent, high-quality content to audiences, supporting the company’s reputation and operational excellence.
Roles and Responsibilities: Monitor and control the broadcast signal to ensure uninterrupted transmission of scheduled programming. Operate and oversee automation systems, video servers, and routing equipment to manage live and pre-recorded content. Coordinate with production teams, technical staff, and content providers to schedule and switch programming as required. Troubleshoot and resolve technical issues related to signal quality, equipment malfunctions, and transmission errors promptly. Maintain detailed logs of broadcast activities, incidents, and technical problems for reporting and compliance purposes. Ensure compliance with regulatory standards and company policies regarding content and broadcast operations. Perform routine maintenance and quality checks on broadcast equipment to prevent downtime. Assist in the setup and operation of live broadcasts and special events as needed.
Qualifications: High school diploma or equivalent; an associate or bachelor’s degree in broadcasting, communications, or a related field is preferred. Proven experience (2+ years) as a Master Control Operator or in a similar broadcast operations role. Strong understanding of broadcast standards, signal flow, and transmission protocols. Excellent problem-solving skills and the ability to work under pressure in a fast-paced environment. Effective communication skills and the ability to collaborate with cross-functional teams. Availability to work flexible hours, including nights, weekends, and holidays, as broadcast operations require. Tools and Technologies: Proficiency in broadcast automation systems such as Grass Valley Ignite, Harris Nexio, or similar. Experience with video servers and playout systems like Harmonic Spectrum, Sony Media Backbone, or EVS.Skilled in operating routing switchers, signal monitoring equipment, and audio/video quality control tools. Familiarity with SMPTE standards, SDI signal management, and IP-based broadcast technologies. Competence in using Microsoft Office Suite for reporting and documentation purposes.
