Director of Transmission Planning
talismanDenver (CO)
About the role
Technical Director, Grid Consulting Confidential Search | Talisman Advisory Partners Our client is a major global energy technology company expanding its power systems consulting practice in North America. This is a senior, individual contributor role for a deeply technical power systems expert who will advise utilities, developers, and grid operators on complex transmission and interconnection challenges. This is not a business development or sales position.
What You'll Do:
You'll serve as a trusted technical advisor to utilities, transmission system operators, and developers navigating complex grid challenges. You'll lead transmission planning and operational studies, covering steady state analysis, dynamic and voltage stability, and protection coordination. You'll guide clients through the technical and regulatory considerations of new resource interconnection and grid planning, and provide expert input on power electronic and grid technology applications. You'll also support technical positioning on proposals in partnership with the business development team.
What We're Looking For:
A candidate with fifteen plus years of experience heavily weighted toward power systems, ideally including HVDC, FACTS, or traditional transmission planning work, along with load and data center study experience. System level expertise is essential; substation build experience is a plus. A background in consulting or utility environments is strongly preferred over EPC backgrounds. Advanced degree in electrical power engineering or related field is preferred. Established relationships across the ISO, utility, or developer landscape are a strong plus.ge.
Before you apply
Applying takes about a minute. These four things decide how fast it moves after that.
Your profile is current
It's what we read first. Occupations, seniority and locations matter more than a long history.
Two examples you can talk through
Not a portfolio — just two pieces of work where you can explain the decisions and what you'd change.
A number in mind
What you're on now and what would make you move. We negotiate better when we know both.
Your notice period
Employers plan around it, and it's the question that stalls offers most often.
Once you apply, someone reads it and calls you before anything reaches the employer — usually within two working days.
