Substation Project Engineer | On-site | Full Time | $110k - $150kI'm partnering with a growing engineering firm that is expanding its Substation Engineering capabilities and looking to add an experienced Substation Project Engineer to its team. This is a leadership position for someone who wants to remain hands-on with the engineering while taking greater ownership over project delivery, client relationships and team development.
What you'll be doing: Mentor, schedule and provide technical direction to junior engineers, designers and CAD operators Serve as the primary customer point of contact for assigned projects, managing client relationships, project delivery and customer satisfaction Perform and direct substation engineering across areas including physical layout, protection and control, relay settings, field support, commissioning and relay testing Lead project design activities, including engineering calculations, design development and the application of established engineering procedures and design manuals Prepare and/or direct the preparation of complex project documentation, including specifications and bid documents Perform and direct detailed drawing reviews, including checking and marking up complete plan sets to ensure designs are clear, accurate and aligned with project intent Provide technical leadership and quality oversight across project deliverables Supervise and assist with the training and development of Project Engineers I and IIWork collaboratively with employees at all levels across the organization Promote and support a strong company-wide safety culture by following established safety standards, policies and best practices Use Microsoft Excel, Word, Power Point and Outlook to support engineering and project management activities Support other related engineering and project responsibilities as needed What they're looking for Ideally, you'll have 5–10 years of applicable substation engineering experience, with a strong background across physical substation design, Protection & Control and/or related power delivery engineering. Previous experience leading engineering teams and working directly with utility or engineering clients is particularly attractive. You'll also need: Bachelor's degree in electrical engineering Active Professional Engineer (PE) license Strong experience with substation engineering and design Experience across multiple areas such as physical layout, Protection & Control, relay settings, commissioning, relay testing and field support Experience mentoring and directing engineers, designers and CAD personnel Strong communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to work effectively with employees and clients at all levels Proficiency with Microsoft Excel, Word, Power Point and Outlook This is an opportunity to take on a genuine leadership role within a substation engineering team, staying close to the technical work while having meaningful ownership over projects, client relationships, team development and the continued growth of the business.
