About the role
Local new car dealership is seeking an accomplished Automotive General Sales Director to lead the dealership’s front-end sales operation and drive measurable improvement across sales volume, process execution, team performance, and customer experience. You will oversee the complete front-end operations, including new and pre-owned vehicle sales and the Finance & Insurance (F&I) department. The ideal candidate has a verified track record of maximizing volume and gross profit while maintaining exceptional Customer Satisfaction Index scores.
Key Responsibilities:
- Lead Team Performance: Recruit, train, and hold sales managers and consultants accountable to performance metrics.· Structure and Desk Deals: Actively step into the deal making process to maximize front-end gross and assist in closing high-value sales.· Improve Inventory Readiness: Partner across sales and service to improve the speed and consistency with which pre-owned vehicles are reconditioned, prepared, and made available for sale.· Drive F&I Penetration: Partner with finance managers to build high-margin revenue through aftermarket products and secondary financing options.
Required Qualifications:
- Experience: Minimum 3–5 years of automotive General Sales Manager (GSM) or Sales Director experience at a new car franchise. Import brand experience strongly preferred.· Dealership Literacy: Deep proficiency with modern CRM platforms, Inventory Management Systems (vAuto or similar), and DMS software.· Leadership Style: Visible, hands-on leader who coaches in real time, sets clear expectations, holds teams accountable, and is comfortable being closely engaged in day-to-day dealership operations.· Compliance: Strong knowledge of federal and state automotive retail, finance, and consumer protection laws.
