About the role

The Opportunity: My client is seeking an Associate of Deal Origination / Business Development to support the growth of a middle market M&A advisory practice. You will work with qualified inbound business-owner opportunities, help identify and develop strong-fit prospective clients, lead and support consultative conversations, and advance qualified opportunities toward signed sell-side advisory engagements. This role combines deal origination, business development, client qualification, and consultative sales. You will build credibility with founders and senior executives, assess strategic goals and transaction readiness, maintain disciplined pipeline activity, and collaborate with senior bankers to create a thoughtful transition from initial relationship development into transaction execution.
What You Will Do: Engage with pre-qualified inbound business-owner opportunities and support deal origination and early-stage advisory conversations. Develop a clear understanding of each company, owner priorities, strategic objectives, transaction timing, valuation expectations, and decision criteria. Evaluate opportunity fit and transaction readiness while communicating the firm’s sell-side M&A process, positioning, deliverables, and client experience. Build trusted relationships with founders and senior executives through thoughtful discovery, responsive follow-up, and professional communication. Help develop qualified opportunities by identifying business needs, decision dynamics, potential barriers, and appropriate next steps. Advance opportunities through qualification, follow-up, proposal discussions, and engagement-letter execution with appropriate urgency. Maintain accurate CRM notes, pipeline stages, forecasts, next steps, and deal-origination activity reporting. Partner with senior bankers on client handoffs and share feedback on lead quality, client sentiment, market conditions, and business development strategy.
What You Bring: Experience in deal origination, business development, consultative B2B sales, financial services, advisory work, or another client-facing professional services environment. Strong business acumen and confidence communicating with founders, business owners, and C-suite decision-makers. Excellent discovery, presentation, organization, written communication, follow-up, and relationship-development skills. Sound commercial judgment with the ability to assess client needs, transaction readiness, and the quality of prospective opportunities. Exposure to M&A, investment banking, private equity, finance, consulting, accounting, brokerage, or professional services is preferred. Comfort with performance targets, accountability, and a 100% commission-only compensation model. Available to work remotely from 9:00 AM to 5:00 PM Central Time. Must be based in the United States.
Why Join: You will work with qualified inbound opportunities, build direct relationships with middle market business owners, collaborate with experienced deal professionals, and have uncapped earning potential tied directly to the advisory engagements you help originate, advance, and secure.

Before you apply

Applying takes about a minute. These four things decide how fast it moves after that.

Your profile is current

It's what we read first. Occupations, seniority and locations matter more than a long history.

Two examples you can talk through

Not a portfolio — just two pieces of work where you can explain the decisions and what you'd change.

A number in mind

What you're on now and what would make you move. We negotiate better when we know both.

Your notice period

Employers plan around it, and it's the question that stalls offers most often.

Once you apply, someone reads it and calls you before anything reaches the employer — usually within two working days.
