About the role

Join us as a volunteer for the 2026 Mesa Book Festival, December 5–6 in Downtown Mesa, Arizona! The Mesa Book Festival brings authors, publishers, booksellers, readers, families, and community organizations together for a weekend celebrating books, reading, and Arizona's literary community. Held in the heart of Downtown Mesa during the holiday season, the festival features book vendors, author appearances, live entertainment, activities for readers of all ages, and book readings near the Mesa Merry Main Street Christmas tree. Volunteers help make the festival possible. Whether you're a book lover, a student looking for community-service experience, an aspiring writer, or simply someone who wants to support a great community event, we'd love to have you join us. What Volunteers May DoVolunteer assignments are varied throughout the festival and may include: Helping authors, publishers, and other vendors locate their spaces and get settled before the festival opens. Greeting festival attendees and helping them navigate the event. Helping readers find authors, genres, books, activities, and vendor tents that interest them. Assisting with the Main Stage, including helping speakers, performers, and presenters. Assisting with children's and family activities, including book readings near the Mesa Merry Main Street Christmas tree. Providing general event support and helping festival organizers throughout the day. Helping with setup before the festival and breakdown at the end of the event. No previous festival experience is required. We'll provide volunteers with the information they need for their assignments.2026 Festival Dates Saturday, December 5, 2026 Sunday, December 6, 2026 Volunteer opportunities will be available throughout both days, including morning setup, daytime festival operations, and closing/breakdown. You don't have to volunteer for the entire weekend. Choose a shift that works for you and spend part of your weekend helping Downtown Mesa celebrate books, authors, and reading. The Mesa Book Festival is presented by Anthology, Inc., an Arizona 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization, and volunteer support helps us create an accessible literary celebration for the community. Come spend a few hours surrounded by books, authors, readers, and holiday activity—and help us make the 2026 Mesa Book Festival a success!

Before you apply

Applying takes about a minute. These four things decide how fast it moves after that.

Your profile is current

It's what we read first. Occupations, seniority and locations matter more than a long history.

Two examples you can talk through

Not a portfolio — just two pieces of work where you can explain the decisions and what you'd change.

A number in mind

What you're on now and what would make you move. We negotiate better when we know both.

Your notice period

Employers plan around it, and it's the question that stalls offers most often.

Once you apply, someone reads it and calls you before anything reaches the employer — usually within two working days.
