About the role

Thinaer builds Physical AI via IoT operations and asset-tracking software for defense-adjacent and industrial manufacturing customers, deployed on AWS GovCloud and PubCloud. Our Thinaer Sonar API platform ties together non-invasive BLE sensing, gateways, AI, and analytics so customers can track tools, equipment, parts, and compliance in real time. We're hiring a Senior Backend Architect / Developer for a single, senior role that combines both halves of the job: setting technical direction for the Sonar platform's backend, and staying hands‑on writing the code that ships it.
What You'll Do: Own backend architecture decisions for the Thinaer platform: service boundaries, data models, and integration patterns across ingestion, storage, and reporting. Design and build backend services and APIs that power asset-tracking, AI, analytics, and compliance dashboards for customers. Lead OT/IT integration work, bridging telemetry from BLE sensors and gateways with industrial systems, including in air-gapped and network‑segmented deployments. Guide backend design and implementation on AWS (GovCloud), balancing performance, security, and cost. Set and enforce backend engineering standards: code review, testing, deployment practices, and documentation. Partner with compliance and security stakeholders to ensure backend systems meet CMMC Level 2 / NIST SP 800-171 requirements. Collaborate with other backend engineers and review architecture and code across the team. What You'll Bring 10+ years of backend software development experience, including senior or lead-level ownership of system architecture. Deep experience designing and building production APIs and distributed backend services. Hands‑on experience with AWS, including production deployments (GovCloud experience a strong plus). Working knowledge of network and security fundamentals relevant to OT/IT integration (VLANs, firewalls, segmented or air‑gapped networks). Strong database design skills, across both relational and time‑series or event data. Proven ability to both set technical direction and personally write production code — this is not an architecture‑only or coding‑only role. Must be a U.S. citizen or otherwise eligible to work on CMMC‑relevant, defense‑adjacent systems, and able to pass related compliance screening. Experience with C# and .NET, ideally building and maintaining production backend services.
Nice to Have: Experience with IoT, sensor data, or telemetry systems, including data from constrained or intermittently connected devices. Experience supporting or building systems toward CMMC Level 2 / NIST SP 800-171 compliance. Familiarity with FedRAMP Moderate, FIPS 140-2/3, or similar federal/defense compliance frameworks. Experience with BLE, RFID, or other real‑time location and proximity sensing technologies. Background working with defense industrial base or critical manufacturing customers. Experience standing up or maintaining SIEM tooling or security monitoring for backend infrastructure. Work ArrangementThis is a remote/hybrid role based in the U.S. Given Thinaer’s defense‑adjacent customer base and AWS GovCloud deployments, candidates must be U.S. citizens or otherwise eligible to work on CMMC‑relevant systems, and must be able to pass any required compliance screening. Thinaer is an equal opportunity employer.

Before you apply

Applying takes about a minute. These four things decide how fast it moves after that.

Your profile is current

It's what we read first. Occupations, seniority and locations matter more than a long history.

Two examples you can talk through

Not a portfolio — just two pieces of work where you can explain the decisions and what you'd change.

A number in mind

What you're on now and what would make you move. We negotiate better when we know both.

Your notice period

Employers plan around it, and it's the question that stalls offers most often.

Once you apply, someone reads it and calls you before anything reaches the employer — usually within two working days.
