About the role

Application Engineer – Data Center
Location: Grover, North Carolina
Employment Type: Full-time Workplace: On-site / Hybrid; expected on-site approximately 3–4 days per week
Reports To: Data Center Business Director, with functional coordination with China-based Engineering
Travel: Occasional travel for customer meetings, factory visits, FAT/SAT support, and project reviews About Ebon Energy Ebon Energy is building its U.S. presence in the power and energy infrastructure market, with a focus on transformer and power-distribution solutions serving data centers, utilities, and other critical infrastructure customers. As we expand our North American commercial and engineering capabilities, we are building a team that can work closely with customers from early technical evaluation and specification review through proposal, design coordination, manufacturing, testing, and project execution.
The Opportunity: Ebon Energy is seeking an Application Engineer – Data Center to provide front-end technical support for North American data center opportunities and serve as a key technical bridge between customers, the U.S. commercial team, and our engineering and manufacturing resources in China. This role will work closely with the Data Center Business Director and customer engineering teams to understand project requirements, evaluate specifications, select and configure appropriate transformer solutions, address technical questions, and support proposals and technical submittals. The ideal candidate combines strong electrical engineering fundamentals with practical experience in transformers, medium- and low-voltage power distribution, switchgear, critical-power systems, or related electrical equipment. This is a customer-facing engineering role suited for someone who can independently interpret technical requirements, communicate effectively with both commercial and engineering stakeholders, and help translate customer needs into executable technical solutions.
What You’ll Do: Review customer specifications, one-line diagrams, electrical drawings, data sheets, and other technical requirements for data center projects. Evaluate project requirements and select or configure transformer solutions appropriate for data center and critical-power applications. Support technical evaluation of transformer ratings, voltage requirements, impedance, insulation, cooling, accessories, protection requirements, and other application-specific parameters. Prepare and maintain compliance matrices, deviation lists, technical clarifications, technical proposal inputs, and customer responses. Identify specification gaps, exceptions, risks, and technical issues early in the opportunity cycle and coordinate resolution with internal engineering teams. Review drawings, technical submittals, data sheets, and related engineering documentation before customer release. Lead or support customer technical meetings, specification reviews, design discussions, and technical clarification sessions. Work closely with the Data Center Business Director and commercial team during RFQ/RFP evaluation, proposal development, and customer negotiations. Coordinate technical questions and requirements with China-based engineering and manufacturing teams and ensure clear communication between U.S. customers and internal technical resources. Translate customer requirements, North American standards, and project expectations into clear engineering inputs for internal teams. Support the shared Application Engineering resource pool during periods of peak workload and assist with cross-functional technical priorities as needed. Support factory acceptance testing (FAT), site acceptance testing (SAT), customer inspections, and project reviews as required. Provide technical input during project handoff from commercial development to engineering, manufacturing, and execution teams. Help strengthen Ebon Energy’s application-engineering processes, technical documentation, and customer-facing engineering capabilities as the U.S. organization grows.
What We’re Looking For: Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering or an equivalent technical discipline. Experience with transformers, medium-voltage/low-voltage power distribution, switchgear, critical-power systems, or related electrical equipment. Ability to independently read and interpret customer specifications, one-line diagrams, electrical drawings, data sheets, and technical documentation. Strong understanding of electrical power-distribution fundamentals and equipment applications. Ability to translate customer requirements into clear technical requirements and coordinate effectively with engineering and manufacturing teams. Strong analytical and problem-solving skills with attention to technical detail. Strong technical writing skills, including the ability to prepare technical clarifications, compliance responses, deviation lists, and customer-facing documentation. Strong verbal communication skills and confidence participating in customer technical discussions. Ability to work effectively across commercial, engineering, manufacturing, and project teams in different geographic locations and time zones. Ability to manage multiple customer opportunities and technical priorities in a fast-growing environment.
Preferred Experience: Experience in transformer application engineering, electrical equipment application engineering, or technical sales engineering. Experience supporting data centers, mission-critical facilities, or other critical-power infrastructure. Knowledge of data center electrical power architecture and power-distribution systems. Familiarity with applicable IEEE, ANSI, NEMA, NEC, and UL standards and requirements. Experience reviewing transformer specifications and preparing technical compliance documentation. Experience working directly with EPCs, consulting engineers, electrical contractors, data center developers/operators, or other technical customers. Experience coordinating engineering or manufacturing activities across international teams is a plus. Familiarity with FAT/SAT processes and customer technical inspections is preferred. Work Authorization: Candidates must be legally authorized to work in the United States without sponsorship. Why Join Ebon Energy? This is an opportunity to join Ebon Energy at an important stage of our U.S. growth and help build the technical foundation supporting our North American data center business. Rather than working within a narrowly defined engineering function, you will have the opportunity to work directly across customers, commercial teams, engineering, and manufacturing from early specifications and application selection through technical proposal, design coordination, testing, and project execution. You will also play an important role in connecting North American customer requirements with Ebon’s global engineering and manufacturing capabilities and helping establish the processes and technical standards that will support the company’s continued U.S. growth. For an engineer who enjoys combining technical problem-solving, customer interaction, and cross-functional collaboration, this role offers the opportunity to make a meaningful impact as Ebon Energy expands in the North American data center and critical-power market.
Compensation & Benefits: Ebon Energy offers a competitive compensation package designed to recognize individual performance and contribution to long-term business growth. Ebon Energy also offers a competitive benefits package for eligible U.S. employees, including: Medical, dental, and vision insurance 401(k) retirement plan with company Safe Harbor match Company-paid short-term and long-term disability insurance Company-paid basic life and AD&D insuranceHSA option for employees enrolled in an eligible medical plan 3 weeks of paid vacation annually, increasing with tenure 13 paid holidays 40 hours of sick time annually Optional voluntary health and pet insurance benefits Build What’s Next If you have experience with transformers, power distribution, or critical-power systems and enjoy translating complex customer requirements into practical engineering solutions, we’d like to hear from you. This is an opportunity to work at the intersection of data center infrastructure, transformer technology, customer engineering, and global manufacturing while helping build Ebon Energy’s technical capabilities in the North American market.

Before you apply

Applying takes about a minute. These four things decide how fast it moves after that.

Your profile is current

It's what we read first. Occupations, seniority and locations matter more than a long history.

Two examples you can talk through

Not a portfolio — just two pieces of work where you can explain the decisions and what you'd change.

A number in mind

What you're on now and what would make you move. We negotiate better when we know both.

Your notice period

Employers plan around it, and it's the question that stalls offers most often.

Once you apply, someone reads it and calls you before anything reaches the employer — usually within two working days.
