About the role

MEP Engineering Expert Structural Forensic Experts (SFE) is seeking Mechanical, Electrical, and Plumbing (MEP) Engineers for independent contractor opportunities (1099 worker), with an immediate need for professionals located in or able to support projects throughout the Mid-Atlantic, South, Southeast, and Northeast. Our engineers evaluate construction defects, design issues, and delay claims involving a wide variety of facilities, including residential, commercial, industrial, institutional, manufacturing, energy, water and sewer, and other complex building types.
Responsibilities: Evaluate engineering and construction documents, plans, specifications, and project records Investigate construction defects, design issues, system performance, and delay claims Assess construction activities, quality-control procedures, existing conditions, and test results Determine the cause and extent of alleged defects, design errors or omissions,  failures, and delays Plan and supervise site investigations, testing, and data collection Document observations, findings, and technical conclusions Prepare clear, well-supported expert reports Provide expert testimony in depositions, hearings, arbitration, and trial as required
Qualifications: Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, or a related engineering discipline Active Professional Engineer (PE) license in at least one U.S. state 20+ years of combined academic and professional experience within your area of expertise Significant experience with building MEP systems, design, construction, commissioning, inspection, or failure analysis Strong analytical and problem-solving skills Excellent written and verbal communication skills Ability and willingness to provide expert testimonySFE offers experienced engineers the opportunity to apply decades of technical knowledge to complex construction disputes while maintaining flexibility in where and how they work.
