CookThe Cook works with the Food Service Manager and other kitchen staff to ensure meals are presented to the camp community in a timely, appealing, healthy, and appropriate manner. Greets everyone by name whenever possible, extends thanks when appropriate, and makes relationship-building a priority at all times. This position is responsible for ensuring that the mission, purpose, image, and core values of the YMCA of Greater Hartford are conveyed.
Essential Functions: Oversee the preparation and service of meals, including supervising assisting staff during assigned shifts. Ensure all food is cooked on time and prepared in an appealing and healthy manner. Ensure appropriate sanitation and safety standards are maintained in accordance with Health Department guidelines. Maintain required records in compliance with YMCA of Greater Hartford, government, and ACA standards. Consistently provide friendly and courteous assistance to program participants and parents, exceeding customer expectations. Recognize and respond effectively to hazardous situations. Assist in maintaining cleanliness within the assigned area. Interact with all members and participants in a professional and courteous manner.
Job Requirements: Must be at least 21 years of age. Three years of experience cooking in an institutional setting. Knowledge of all applicable Health Department regulations. CPR and First Aid certification. Excellent written and verbal communication skills. Commitment to working with a diverse staff and camper population in support of YMCA goals.
