About the role
- Perform radiation environment definition (trapped protons/electrons, galactic cosmic rays, solar particle events) for various orbits and mission profiles
- Conduct total ionizing dose (TID), displacement damage dose (DDD), and single event effects (SEE) analyses for electronic components and subsystems
- Support shielding analysis and mass trade studies to meet radiation tolerance requirements
- Work with parts engineering to assess radiation hardness assurance (RHA) of EEE parts and recommend mitigation strategies
- Support survivability analysis against other space environment threats, including charging/discharging, micrometeoroid/orbital debris (MMOD), thermal extremes, and EMP/nuclear environments as applicable
- Develop and maintain radiation analysis tools, models, and simulations (e.g., FASTRAD, CREME96, or equivalent)
- Collaborate with systems engineers, hardware designers, and part engineers to translate radiation requirements into design guidelines
- Participate in design reviews (PDR, CDR) and generate supporting analysis documentation
- Support test planning and execution for radiation qualification testing (TID, SEE, proton/heavy-ion testing at accelerator facilities)
- Document analysis methodologies, assumptions, and results in formal reports and technical memoranda
- Interface with customers and government agencies on radiation and survivability requirements as needed
- U.S. Citizenship required with the ability to obtain and maintain a security clearance
- Bachelor’s degree in Aerospace, Electrical, Physics, or related Engineering field 3-5 years of relevant experience in space radiation effects, survivability engineering, or related space systems engineering
- Working knowledge of space radiation environments and effects on electronics (TID, DDD, SEE)
- Familiarity with radiation analysis and transport tools (e.g., FASTRAD, CREME96, or equivalent)
- Understanding of EEE parts radiation hardness assurance principles
- Strong written and verbal communication skills; ability to produce clear technical documentation
- Ability to work both independently and collaboratively in a cross-functional engineering environment
Before you apply
Applying takes about a minute. These four things decide how fast it moves after that.
Your profile is current
It's what we read first. Occupations, seniority and locations matter more than a long history.
Two examples you can talk through
Not a portfolio — just two pieces of work where you can explain the decisions and what you'd change.
A number in mind
What you're on now and what would make you move. We negotiate better when we know both.
Your notice period
Employers plan around it, and it's the question that stalls offers most often.
Once you apply, someone reads it and calls you before anything reaches the employer — usually within two working days.
