About the role
This position serves as the Township's lead administrator for zoning and land-use administration, with a primary emphasis oninterpreting andenforcing the Township Zoning Resolution while providing professional support for development review, zoning administration, andlimited long-range planning. The Planning &Zoning Administratorcoordinates zoning operations, reviews development proposals and permit applications, prepares staff reports and recommendations, supports the Zoning Commission and Board of Zoning Appeals, oversees zoning enforcement activities, andserves asthe primary resource for residents, developers, contractors, andpublic officials onzoning matters. Long-range planning, zoning text amendments, and comprehensive planning efforts aresupported asneeded butare secondary totheposition's zoning administration responsibilities.
Essential Dutiesand Responsibilities:
Administerandinterpretthe Township Zoning Resolutionandapplicable Ohio Revised Codeprovisions.
Review zoningpermitapplications, siteplans, lotsplits, conditionaluses, variances, rezoningrequests, planned developments, and other development applications for compliance.
Prepareclear, objectivestaffreportsandpresentrecommendationstothe Zoning Commission, Boardof Zoning Appeals, and Board of Township Trustees.
Coordinate agendas, casefiles, publicnotices, andmeetingmaterialsforzoning-relatedboardsand commissions.
Maintainallzoningrecords, permitfiles, maps, casefiles, anddigitaldatabases.
Investigatezoningcomplaints, coordinateenforcementactivitieswiththe Zoning Inspector, conductsite visits, document findings, and recommend corrective actions.
Provide professional assistance to residents, developers, engineers, architects, surveyors, and contractors regarding zoning requirements and development standards.
Coordinatewithcountyagencies, regionalplanningorganizations, utility providers, andother governmental entities on development-related matters.
Recommend updatesto the Township Zoning Resolution, zoningmap, andland-use policiesbasedon changing development trends and legal requirements.
Supportcomprehensiveplanningandotherlong-rangeplanninginitiatives asassigned.
Representthe Townshipatregional planningandzoningmeetings andprofessionalorganizations.
Performrelateddutiesas assigned.
Knowledge, Skillsand Abilities
Thorough knowledge of zoning administration, development review, subdivision procedures, and Ohio land-use law.
Ability to read and interpret siteplans, engineering drawings, plats, grading plans, andconstruction documents.
Strongreportwriting, presentation, andpubliccommunicationskills.
Abilitytoapplyordinancesconsistentlywhileexercising sound professionaljudgment.
Excellentcustomerservice, conflictresolution, andrelationship-buildingskills.
Proficiencywith Microsoft Office andpermittingdatabasesoftwarerequired. GISexperienceisaplus.
Minimum Qualifications:
Bachelor's degree inplanning, public administration, geography, architecture, engineering, or a closely related field preferred.
Minimum five years of progressively responsible experience inzoning administration, planning, or community development.
Acombinationofworkexperienceandeducationwillbeconsidered.
Experiencesupportingzoningboardsorplanningcommissionspreferred.
