About the role

Greenhouse Assistant Manager American Plant is seeking an Assistant Manager in our Greenhouse Department (Indoor Houseplants). Assist the Greenhouse Manager with the daily operation of the department, including customer service, employee supervision, plant care, merchandising, inventory, and maintaining an organized and attractive greenhouse. Assistant Manager duties include: Assist customers with houseplant selection, care, and product questions Support, train, and provide direction to Greenhouse employees Help oversee daily department operations in the Manager's absence Monitor plant health, watering, grooming, and overall presentation Assist with receiving, pricing, stocking, ordering, and inventory Maintain attractive, well-stocked displays and a clean, safe department Identify basic plant disease and pest issues Assist with deliveries, transfers, throwaways, returns, and replacements Communicate department priorities and employee concerns to the Greenhouse Manager Work cooperatively with other departments and assist with opening/closing as needed Follow company policies, procedures, and safety standards Perform other duties as assigned
Qualifications & Requirements: Previous garden center, greenhouse, retail, or plant-related experience preferred Supervisory or leadership experience preferred Good plant knowledge and strong customer-service skills Ability to work independently and as part of a team Ability to work indoors/outdoors, stand for extended periods, and lift up to 50 lbs Flexible availability, including at least one weekend day Compensation & Benefits * Employee discount on plants, décor, and lifestyle products * Paid time off (full-time employees)* Medical, dental, and vision insurance (full-time employees)* 401(k) plan for eligible employees * Supportive team environment in a family-owned local company
