Reports to: The Crew Leader assigns work in terms of general instructions.
Job Requirements:
Mows grass, edges curbs, and removes leaves; removes tree limbs and dead trees from parks. Operates mowers, blowers, edgers, and weed eaters. Picks up supplies needed to perform daily work activities. Installs and maintains flower beds. Maintains tools and equipment. Assists with litter collection and disposal. Assists in the installation of irrigation systems. Applies herbicides and pesticides. Installs, repairs, and maintains fences. Maintains restrooms. Applies fertilizers. Maintains and repairs sports fields. Installs mulch. Plants trees and shrubs. Assists in equipment set-up and break-down for special events. Preparation of athletic fields and bathrooms for games. Performs other related duties as assigned.
Minimum Qualifications Education and Experience:
High school diploma or equivalent. Or an equivalent combination of education and experience. Ability to read, write and perform basic mathematical calculations. Possession of or ability to readily obtain a valid driver's license issued by the State of North Carolina for the type of vehicle or equipment operated. Must have a valid driver's license issued by the State of North Carolina. No experience needed Knowledge, Skills and Abilities Requirements
- Knowledge of the operation and maintenance of assigned tools and equipment.
- Knowledge of safety standards.
- Skill in analyzing problems and identifying solutions.
- Skill in the repair and maintenance of hand tools. Supervisory controls: The Crew Leader assigns work in terms of somewhat general instructions. The supervisor spot-checks completed work for compliance with instructions and established procedures, accuracy, and the nature and propriety of the final results. Guidelines include the Personnel Policy Manual; OSHA regulations; work zone safety standards; and equipment operation and repair manuals. These guidelines are generally clear and specific, but may require some interpretation in application. Complexity: The work consists of related maintenance duties. Inclement weather contributes to the complexity of the work. Scope and effect: The purpose of this position is to assist in the maintenance of City parks. Success in this position contributes to a well-maintained City park grounds and facilities. Personal contacts: Contacts are typically with co-workers and members of the general public. Purpose of contacts: Contacts are typically to give or exchange information, resolve problems, and provide services.
Physical demands:
The work is medium work which requires exerting up to 50 pounds of force occasionally, and/or up to 30 pounds of force frequently, and/or up to 10 pounds of force constantly to move objects. Additionally, the following physical abilities are required: Balancing, Climbing, Crawling, Crouching, Feeling, Grasping, Handling, Hearing 1, Hearing 2, Kneeling, Lifting, Mental Acuity Work environment: The work is typically performed outdoors. The employee is exposed to noise, dust, dirt, grease, machinery with moving parts and occasional cold or inclement weather. The work requires the use of protective devices such as masks, goggles, or gloves. Supervisory and management responsibility: None.
