About the role
Firefighter Position An individual in this position will perform fire suppression activities, drive fire apparatus, and operate firefighting/emergency equipment while on the fire/emergency scene. They will participate in fire prevention and public education activities and work with the community on a regular basis. They will perform maintenance on buildings, equipment, and apparatus on a regular basis as well as related work as required and assigned. An employee in this position will work a 40-hour, M-F work week, but will be expected to respond to emergency calls after hours as needed. They will be expected to respond to page tones as well as individual calls from senior staff. This individual will also be required to attend a monthly business meeting as well as at least two monthly training meetings.
Qualifications:
Graduation from high school or possession of a GED; Must have an Idaho Driver's License at time of hire; No felony convictions on your record; Any equivalent combination of experience and training which provides the knowledge, skills, and abilities necessary to perform the work.
Required Knowledge, Skills & Abilities:
Knowledge of: Current firefighting tactics and techniques (structure/wildland) to operate safely on the fire scene. Apparatus and pumping operations of modern firefighting equipment including structure engines, aerial apparatus, and wildland engines. Operation of modern firefighting equipment and tools including saws, SCBA, and filling stations. Minor maintenance and mechanical repair of equipment and vehicles. Modern office equipment, software, and programs.
Physical Requirements:
Must possess the strength and physical ability necessary to perform the essential functions and duties required by the job. This will include lifting loads up to 100 pounds, climbing ladders, operating heavy powered equipment, and walking several miles in rugged terrain. You will be required to pass a department issued physical agility test.
Other Requirements:
Must possess the skills and abilities to communicate well in front of large groups of people. Must possess the ability to teach students of varying ages on fire safety related topics. Must possess the skills necessary to prepare correspondence, reports, lists, and other documents as requested by other designated office personnel. Once hired, the applicant shall complete all needed training required to meet NFPA 1001, Firefighter Professional Qualifications, NFPA 1002, Driver/Operator Professional Qualifications, and all assigned training for Firefighter I/II and Driver/Operator, within the first two years of the date of hire.
