High School History Teacher Position: High School History Teacher
Reports To: Academic Director Status: Full-Time
Position Overview:
IDEA Public Charter School is seeking a knowledgeable, engaging, and student-centered History Teacher who is committed to providing students with a rigorous and relevant educational experience. The teacher will be responsible for planning and delivering high-quality instruction that develops students’ historical knowledge, critical thinking, reading, writing, discussion, and civic engagement skills. The teacher will teach U.S. Government during the Fall semester and either DC History or U.S. History during the Spring semester, based on the needs of the school.
Key Responsibilities:
Plan and deliver rigorous, standards-aligned history and social studies instruction. Create engaging lessons that require students to read, write, think critically, discuss, analyze primary and secondary sources, and defend ideas with evidence. Develop and implement curriculum, assessments, projects, and other learning experiences aligned with course standards. Regularly assess student learning and use results to reteach, intervene, and adjust instruction. Maintain a positive, structured, and academically focused classroom environment. Provide additional support and intervention to students who have not yet demonstrated mastery. Maintain accurate student grades, attendance, and instructional records. Communicate effectively with students, families, colleagues, and school leadership. Participate in professional development, collaborative planning, school events, and other responsibilities that support the IDEA school community.
Qualifications:
Bachelor’s degree required. Strong knowledge of history, government, and social studies content. Strong classroom management and instructional skills. Demonstrated commitment to high expectations and improving outcomes for all students. Prior experience teaching high school students preferred.
