Assistant Controller- Manufacturing
Location: Grand Rapids, MI | Hybrid, 2–3 Days In Office
Base Salary: $100,000–$125,000 + 10% BonusA growing manufacturing organization in the Grand Rapids area is seeking an experienced Assistant Controller to join its corporate accounting team. This is a great opportunity for an accounting professional who enjoys a mix of hands-on accounting, financial analysis, process improvement, and supporting a growing, multi-location organization. The Assistant Controller will work closely with the Controller and play an important role in the month-end close, financial reporting, general ledger accounting, and integration of newly acquired businesses. The ideal candidate has a strong accounting foundation and is comfortable working in a fast-paced, evolving environment.
Key Responsibilities: Support month-end and year-end close processes, including journal entries, accruals, and account reconciliations Maintain a strong understanding of the general ledger and ensure accurate financial reporting Prepare financial reporting packages, management reports, variance analyses, and ad hoc financial analyses Manage fixed asset accounting and support inventory analysis and reconciliations Review AP and AR activity for accuracy and completeness Support payroll-related accounting activities as needed Analyze financial results to identify trends, variances, risks, and opportunities Assist with annual audits, tax reporting packages, 1099 filings, and property tax reporting Support lease accounting activities under ASC 842 Assist with the accounting integration of newly acquired businesses Participate in ERP implementations, system transitions, and accounting process improvement initiatives
Qualifications: Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related business field 6–8+ years of progressive general ledger, financial reporting, or related accounting experience Strong knowledge of U.S. GAAPAdvanced Microsoft Excel skills Strong analytical, organizational, and problem-solving abilities Ability to manage multiple priorities and deadlines in a fast-paced environment Strong written and verbal communication skills Accounting experience within a manufacturing, distribution, or multi-location organization Experience supporting acquisitions or integrating newly acquired businessesERP implementation, upgrade, or system conversion experienceASC 842 lease accounting experience Experience working within a private equity-backed or high-growth organization Compensation & Schedule This position offers a $100,000–$125,000 base salary plus a 10% annual bonus. The role follows a hybrid schedule with approximately 2–3 days per week in the Grand Rapids office.
