Job PostingPOSITION SUMMARYThe Optician oversees the daily operations of the optical department within an ophthalmology practice. This role is responsible for providing advanced optical expertise, supervising optician staff, ensuringaccurate interpretation and fulfillment of prescriptions, managing inventory and vendor relationships, monitoring financial performance, and delivering exceptional patient service. The Optician workscollaboratively with ophthalmologists, optometrists, technicians, and administrative personnel to ensurehigh-quality optical care and a consistent, efficient workflow.
POSITION QUALIFICATIONS
Education/Licensure/Certification:
- High school diploma or equivalent required.· ABO Certification (American Board of Opticianry) highly preferred.· NCLE Certification (National Contact Lens Examiners) preferred.
Knowledge/Experience:
- Minimum 3 years of experience as an optician required.· Strong knowledge of ophthalmic lenses, frames, measurements, and dispensing protocols required.· Prior supervisory or lead experience in an optical or medical setting preferred.· Experience working in an ophthalmology practice or medical optical shop.· Familiarity with Medicare, VSP, EyeMed, and insurance/vision plan billing.
Skills:
- Excellent communication, leadership, and customer-service skills required.· Proficiency with optical software, EMR systems, and computer applications required.· Ability to motivate, train, and develop team members.· Strong conflict-resolution and problem-solving skills.· Skilled in balancing patient care with operational needs.· High-level understanding of complex prescriptions and fitting techniques.· Proficient in eyeglass adjustments, repairs, and troubleshooting.· Demonstrates empathy, patience, and professionalism.· Able to communicate technical information clearly to patients and staff.· Strong organizational skills and attention to detail.· Ability to multitask and manage time in a fast-paced environment.· Understanding of inventory control and financial performance metrics
