About the role

Senior Software Engineer – Bioinformatics Daley And Associates is currently seeking a Senior Software Engineer to help design, improve, and scale production software supporting bioinformatics workflows. This is a software engineering-focused position, rather than a research or data science role. The ideal candidate will have a strong Computer Science background and experience building scalable, production-grade applications using Rust and Python within a genomics or bioinformatics environment. This is a remote role and pays a salary range of $170,000.00-$190,000.00.
Responsibilities: Design, develop, and support production software for large-scale genomic data processing. Build and optimize high-performance applications using Rust and Python. Improve application performance, scalability, concurrency, and memory efficiency. Integrate Rust-based functionality into existing Python applications and services. Design and optimize database solutions using MongoDB and relational databases. Develop software supporting genomic analysis and variant-processing workflows. Build automated testing and validation processes to maintain application reliability. Troubleshoot application and performance issues within Linux-based environments. Collaborate with engineering and scientific teams on new functionality and technical improvements.
Qualifications: 5+ years of professional software engineering experience. Bachelor's or Master's degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, or a related technical field. Strong development experience with Rust and Python. Experience building and supporting complex applications in a production environment. Strong understanding of software architecture, testing, SDLC, and performance optimization. Experience with MongoDB and relational databases, including data modeling and schema design. Experience integrating Rust and Python; PyO3, Maturin, or similar technologies is a plus. Professional experience within bioinformatics, genomics, computational biology, or a related environment. Familiarity with genomic file formats such as FASTQ, BAM, CRAM, and VCF.Experience working with sequencing data and genomic processing workflows. Strong Linux/Bash skills.
Additional Experience: The following experience would be beneficial but is not required: PhD or other advanced degree in a relevant technical discipline. Software development experience within regulated, clinical, healthcare, or other quality-sensitive environments. Experience with distributed or high-performance computing systems. Experience optimizing computational workloads for CPU or GPU environments. Experience developing applications using TypeScript. Experience supporting very large datasets and high-volume processing systems.
