Senior CNC Programmer / Shop Lead Carbon SiC Technologies, Inc. Position Summary:
We are seeking an experienced Senior CNC Programmer / Shop Lead to take ownership of our CNC machining capabilities and day-to-day machine shop operations. This is a highly hands-on role for someone who can independently program, set up, and operate our Haas VF-2YT CNC, develop machining strategies and workholding, troubleshoot problems, and produce high-quality prototype and production components. The role will work closely with our engineering team on carbon-carbon brake components, graphite and steel tooling, dies, fixtures, brake pads, prototypes, and other advanced material components. This individual will also be trained to oversee routine operation and maintenance of our Spark Plasma Sintering (SPS) equipment and will have the opportunity to help build and lead a larger manufacturing team as the company grows.
Key Responsibilities:
• Program, set up, and operate a Haas VF-2YT CNC machining center• Develop CAM programs, tooling, fixtures, workholding, and machining strategies• Machine prototype and production components from carbon-carbon, graphite, metals, and other advanced materials• Machine carbon-carbon brake rotor features, tooling, dies, fixtures, and other engineering hardware• Operate and support surface grinding and other shop equipment• Perform first-article and in-process dimensional inspection• Read and interpret engineering drawings, tolerances, and GD&T• Maintain CNC equipment, tooling, preventive maintenance, and overall shop organization• Troubleshoot machining and equipment issues• Work directly with engineers on manufacturability, prototype development, and process improvements• Support safe machine shop practices and equipment operation• Learn and oversee routine SPS equipment operation and maintenance• Develop repeatable machining and equipment procedures• Help train and eventually supervise additional machinists and manufacturing technicians Required Qualifications• Significant hands-on CNC programming, setup, and machining experience• Ability to independently take a drawing or CAD model through programming, setup, machining, and inspection• Strong knowledge of CNC milling, tooling, feeds and speeds, workholding, and fixture development• Experience with CAM software• Strong understanding of engineering drawings and GD&T• Experience with precision measurement and inspection equipment• Strong mechanical aptitude and equipment troubleshooting ability• Experience maintaining and operating an organized machine shop• Ability to work effectively alongside engineers in both R&D and production environments• U.S. citizenship required due to the nature of the Department of War programs supported by this position Preferred Qualifications• Haas CNC / VMC experience• 4th-axis machining experience• Aerospace, defense, space, prototype, or high-mix manufacturing experience• Experience machining graphite, composites, carbon materials, or other nontraditional materials• Previous Shop Lead, Lead Machinist, or similar experience• Experience training or mentoring machinists and operators• OSHA, LOTO, Haz Com, or other machine-shop safety experience• Experience developing work instructions and repeatable manufacturing processes Why Carbon SiC Technologies This is an opportunity to take meaningful ownership of a growing machine shop, work directly with engineers, manufacture components from unique advanced materials, and learn additional manufacturing technologies including Spark Plasma Sintering.
