About the role

I’m reaching out regarding a Lead Optical Engineer – Stray Light opportunity in Rochester, NY. This is a full-time 9/80 schedule position focused on advanced optical and electro-optical systems for aerospace and defense applications. The role is primarily focused on stray-light analysis, optical system modeling, radiometric performance, imaging systems, and optical performance verification. The engineer will work closely with optical, mechanical, electrical, systems, software, and manufacturing teams from design through integration and test.
Key Skills & Experience: Senior/Lead Optical Engineering experience 2–3+ years of FRED experience for stray-light analysis Stray-light modeling, scattering, ghosting, and optical throughputEO/IR, imaging, sensing, or high-performance optical systems Space-based payload experience strongly preferred Zemax Optic Studio and/or Code VOptical metrology and testing experienceBSDF/BRDF and ghost-path analysis Baffle, stop, surface-treatment, and contamination-control strategiesMATLAB and/or Python Optical integration, verification, troubleshooting, and root-cause analysis Experience with optical requirements such as wavefront error, distortion, focus, focal length, LOS, and image quality Active Secret or Top Secret/SCI clearance is highly desirable
Education: Bachelor's degree with 9+ years of relevant experience, or Graduate degree with 7+ years of relevant experience Equivalent experience may be considered in lieu of a degree The position is onsite in Rochester, New York, with relocation assistance available.
