Position Summary: The Senior Mechanical Engineer is responsible for leading the design coordination, technical oversight, installation support, and commissioning readiness of all mechanical systems associated with a hyperscale data center construction project. This role serves as the technical authority for mechanical infrastructure throughout the project lifecycle, ensuring all systems are designed, installed, tested, and commissioned in accordance with client requirements, project specifications, industry standards, and operational reliability objectives.
Key Responsibilities
Mechanical Engineering Leadership:
  • Provide technical leadership for all mechanical systems associated with the data center project.
  • Review and validate mechanical designs, specifications, calculations, drawings, and submittals.
  • Serve as the primary technical resource for HVAC, cooling, and mechanical infrastructure systems.
  • Identify design conflicts and collaborate with stakeholders to develop practical solutions.
  • Support value engineering initiatives while maintaining reliability and redundancy requirements.
  • Hyperscale Data Center Systems
  • Provide engineering and technical oversight of:
  • Chilled water systems
  • Air-cooled and water-cooled chillers
  • Cooling towersCRAH and CRAC units
  • Direct and indirect evaporative cooling systems
  • Water treatment systems
  • Pumps and hydronic distribution systems
  • Heat exchangers
  • Fuel oil systems
  • Building automation and controls systems
  • Mechanical utility infrastructure
  • Environmental monitoring systems
  • Fire protection interfaces and integration
  • Construction Support
  • Partner with construction management teams to ensure mechanical installations are executed according to design intent.
  • Conduct field inspections and quality assurance reviews of mechanical installations.
  • Monitor contractor performance and ensure adherence to project specifications and industry standards.
  • Review RFIs, change orders, and field directives related to mechanical scope.
  • Support construction planning, sequencing, and risk mitigation efforts.
Commissioning & Startup: Support commissioning activities from Level 1 through Level 5 testing. Develop and review mechanical commissioning procedures and test scripts. Participate in factory witness testing (FAT), integrated systems testing (IST), and startup activities. Lead resolution of mechanical deficiencies and commissioning issues. Coordinate with operations and facility management teams during turnover and closeout activities.
Required Qualifications: Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering or related engineering discipline. Minimum 10+ years of mechanical engineering experience. Minimum 5+ years supporting mission-critical, data center, pharmaceutical, semiconductor, utility, or similarly complex infrastructure projects. Strong understanding of HVAC and cooling systems utilized in critical environments. Experience supporting large-scale construction projects exceeding $100M in total installed value. Ability to interpret engineering drawings, specifications, and equipment documentation. Proficient with construction management and engineering software platforms. Strong leadership, communication, and problem-solving skills.
Preferred Qualifications: Professional Engineer (PE) license. Experience supporting hyperscale data center projects for major cloud providers. Knowledge of Tier III and Tier IV facility requirements.
