About the role
Our client is a $75M independent full-line lumber and building materials dealer serving multifamily and residential builders and remodelers from multiple locations throughout the Northeast. They offer an extensive product lines ranging from commodity lumber products to high-end custom design. Built on deep regional relationships and a reputation for reliability, this is an organization that has earned its standing in a competitive market through consistent execution and a team that genuinely knows the business. What they are building next requires the right sales leader to drive it.
The Opportunity:
We are seeking a Vice President of Sales and Purchasing to lead the company's full commercial organization across all locations and market segments. This is a seat at the leadership table, reporting directly to the President, leading outside sales, inside sales, kitchen design, and purchasing. The multifamily segment represents a strong percentage of the company’s growth and the VP of Sales and Purchasing will have the opportunity to continue to grow that segment along with building the team. This leader will be hands‑on: actively bidding, closing, and project managing multifamily work while simultaneously developing the team's capability to do the same. On the purchasing side, this role carries real autonomy. The VP of Sales and Purchasing will lead vendor relationships, align product mix and inventory positioning with market demand, and ensure the company stays ahead of what customers are building and buying. Purchasing decisions will directly support margin integrity and the company's competitive position in both the multifamily and residential segments. This is an organization with the foundation in place and the appetite to grow. The opportunity is to build the process, the culture, and the team capacity that gets them there. What You Will Need to Be Successful:
Sales Leadership and Team Development:
Proven track record leading multi‑location sales teams in the building materials, with the ability to set performance expectations, develop talent, and build a culture of accountability. Multifamily Sales Expertise:
Direct experience selling into multifamily construction, including pre‑construction spec work, bid management, and cradle‑to‑grave project execution and can teach others to do the same. Business Development Orientation:
You are a builder of new business, not just a manager of existing accounts. You bring discipline to prospecting, and the persistence to open doors across remodel, single‑family, and multifamily segments. Purchasing and Vendor Management Acumen:
Comfortable leading the purchasing function with a strategic lens: managing vendor relationships, reading market demand, and translating customer feedback into smart inventory and product mix decisions that protect margin and support growth. Process Builder in an Entrepreneurial Environment:
Experience creating and implementing sales processes, CRM discipline, and reporting cadence in an organization that has grown without heavy infrastructure.
Before you apply
Applying takes about a minute. These four things decide how fast it moves after that.
Your profile is current
It's what we read first. Occupations, seniority and locations matter more than a long history.
Two examples you can talk through
Not a portfolio — just two pieces of work where you can explain the decisions and what you'd change.
A number in mind
What you're on now and what would make you move. We negotiate better when we know both.
Your notice period
Employers plan around it, and it's the question that stalls offers most often.
Once you apply, someone reads it and calls you before anything reaches the employer — usually within two working days.
